Free music with no strings attached can sometimes be difficult to find online. If you search hard enough, you may find some sites offering samples or mp3s released by independent and emerging artists.
You will have to do some digging, and the selection may not be the greatest, but hey… you get what you pay for :)
Some sites offer free music with direct links and others require a little more work to get to the good stuff. Whatever the situation may be, hopefully you will find something you like and get some sweet tunes to your music library.
Below I have compiled a few resources for finding free mp3 music that you can add directly to your digital music collection with no costs:
Last.FM Free Music – Last.fm is a great site for finding music that matches your taste. It’s also a great resource for free mp3 downloads. Lots of good and popular music. Visit the link to get directly to the free stuff. Music is also categorized by genre, which makes it a lot more convenient and easier to find your favorite music.
Jamendo – Very cool site with lots of albums to download for free. Very user-friendly. Requires registration.
YourMP3.net – This site provides direct links to mp3 downloads. The selection is OK. It appears to have some older stuff, but still a decent resource for free music.
MP3DownloadWorld – This site has some links on the side to a nice selection of album downloads. You have to click on the album links on the left which will redirect to a page with the album list and then onto another page with the downloads. Lots of clicking, but the free music is there.
DirectFreeMP3 – Another site with direct links. A little hard to navigate and no search feature, but easier to get to the direct downloads. Once again, the selection contains some older stuff, but a lot of good, popular music is available.
Mp3s.pl – This one is kind of confusing. You have to search for the song, click on the link, and then right-click on the alternative download link. The selection on this site is impressive, but not very user-friendly.
MP3.com – MP3.com has a section of free music downloads. A little more user-friendly interface, but the selection isn’t as good. Still contains some popular artists and organized by genre.
So there’s a list of sites you can start your journey of music discovery on. I apologize if the link ends up really slow or dead after a long period of time. Some of these sites don’t last too long, so all the more reason to check them out and get the good free music while it lasts.
