Finding legal music that is free is hard to do, since there are so many legal limits surrounding it. Some people use social networking sites to obtain the material, but the problem is that a lot of it is copyrighted material and using illegal samples.

It is interesting now that because of the technology of the internet, some sites are giving up and actually giving their albums away for free. Most music advocated would argue that most artists only use albums as a promotion tool and make most of their profit from events like tours n such.

There is a site called Netlabels where a lot of somewhat lesser known artists are putting up their albums for free. This is good news, as a lot of this music is actually pretty good.

You can even download and upload these albums to your own website if you choose, as it is advertising for the arist. Of course, there are some restrictions, such as Creative Commons license. It is a good idea to check the license before you start doing this with your own website.
