SpiralFrog is a website that offers free music downloads as long as you sign up for a free account and have Windows Media Player plug-in installed in your browser. Unfortunately, it will not work on Mac.
You will need to install a download manager in order to get the music files (which is pretty much standard for a lot of these sites) which will be in WMA format (which can be converted). This application is easy to setup and will sit in your task tray icon area.
The site has a good music selection for popular artists. There aren’t as many categories and selection as most independent-style music sites, but SpiralFrog makes up for it with an easy to use interface.
You can use the website itself as a music player, but it utilizes Windows Media Player and you can just take the downloads and play them in your favorite player (or put it on your IPod!) Just remember that the format is WMA and will probably have to be converted. It’s a little bit of work, but at least the music is free!
